In following my last post below, I have to make mention of our afternoon today. Auntie Valerie came by, we visited, Isabela had her cracking up, and I got to do my normal "I need to talk to you and tell you what's going on inside of me" (whether it's bad or really good). Many people credit me so much for Isabela's triumphant healing when it came to her heart surgeries, eating difficulties and her severe delays in her development. But, the world must know, beside Sammy's incredible role, I did not do this by myself. I had a team of people supporting me on all levels...a village. I truly believe this little girl would not be here without our village.
Auntie Valerie is a rock for me, a spiritual leader, and even one who will fight any battle for me when I don't think I can. Like I have told her before, because I know she loves Oprah, she is my Maya Angelou. She feeds my soul and she certainly saved me so many times when I spent all those desperate moments in the ICU with Isabela. Even though Valerie was one of two of Isabela's primary nurses for the 6 months, she claims Isabela to be her "baby". I am ok, with that, so ok with that.
I look forward to the day Auntie Valerie and her "baby" cook up a feast in her kitchen. They both seem to really enjoy the love for cooking.
God gave me the greatest village. Today, 3 years later, that very same village from the hospital still supports me in raising Isabela, in loving her. May God bless my gems, Valerie, Christina, Anna, Daniela and Heather. PLUS, outside of the hospital staff, we have added more family members...a handful of wonderful, extraordinary friends. What a feeling to know that our baby has such a special safety net.
