Skin to Skin

Isabela has been sick this week. The Croup has triggered Asthma complications. It's natural for us to just let her sleep in our bed. We like to caress her and it makes her 2-3 hour breathing treatments easier. However, in the mornings lately, I haave been paying for it. My back has been aching and my head has pounded. Working out in the a.m. has not really been hapening. But, would I change it? Nope! Even if I did get upset, this quickly puts it in perspective to me. There was a time in which I was even more deathly tired. I have copied from my previous blog, the one I maintained before Isabela was born, during her surgeries and after. I have 247 posts on there, but here's one very special one,

Hi all, Sam here.I want to share my feelings, indepthed, on the last 6 and a half weeks of my life. I sit here, tears of joy riddled on my keyboard, and think of all of you and the support that you have given my wife and I. There are no words that I can think of that can express the feelings that I have for each any every one of you. Your concerns and prayers have helped Isabela in a way that I could have never imagined. My friends at Reliant,,, YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!There has not been a day go by that each and every one of you has not expressed your concerns on my situation. I do not know if I would have made it this far if it was not for the continuous support of every one of you. Even the very short, quaint, "how is your baby doing" means soo much to me every day. You, my friends, are what fuels me every day. With your prayers, we have gotten this far.I got to hold my baby today for the first time since she was born, OHHHH what a feeling!!! I would never have imagined that such a tiny human being would have so much effect on my life,,IT FELT SO GOOD!!As my wife caressed Isabela to her chest today, Isabela fell asleep immediately, knowing that her mommy was at her side and that she had nothing to worry about, WHAT A SIGHT!!!!I cannot wait for the day that Isabela gets to meet all of you, she will be ecstatic. She will be so happy to see all of her friends that have helped her.And to my wife. What a powerful person. She takes these day to day activities in stride and makes sure that Isabela knows what she has waiting for her at home, terrific job preciousa!!!Thanks to God, he is the major player in all of this.

The only melody that comes to my mind right now is from Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon"!
As we left tonight to come home, we met with Isabela's doctor. It was really weird. I was asking for the upcoming goals. He listed them for me as he counted them with only one hand. Which means, we don't have too far to go! So, then we asked for current concerns he might have. He scratched his head over and over...but, came up with nothing. I alomost seriously collapsed! I didnt' know how to leave without having to worry about something. Yes, Isabela has some little issues to work on, but at least at this point, there aren't any that are life-threatening.
What a feeling!

Well, lastly, I got to hold my baby by means of "kangaroo care" today. In this hold, I removed my upper clothing and Isabela got to lay on my bare skin. The skin-to-skin hold keeps Isabela warm and allows her to hear my heartbeat just as she did when she was in my womb. It's an incredible way for her to bond with me. As soon as she felt my touch, she fell right to sleep! I was so happy to se her so comforted by me. It was the most incredible embrace I have ever felt.
Again, today was beautiful!

(Do you remember this day Christina? Thank you for making it happen!)
