I am so grateful to have two daughters today and one friend of a daughter's. I had a job suited just for girls.
My one drawer of costume jewelry, with a (very) small mix of fine jewels, had been overflowing. Because it's Spring time, and there are some winter/fall jewelry pieces not appropriate for the season, I knew I had to confront the situation. I needed to create a division. Once I got into it, I couldn't understand how I allowed the tangled mess. I am usually a fanatic for order. I just kept secretly blaming it on the housekeeper; she wipes off the jewelry sitting on the dresser into the overpiled drawer. But, yes, it is still my fault that I place it on the top wood surface rather than in the drawer's compartments.
With Crystal here, I knew it would be easier and more fun. She is really great at helping me make wise fashion choices according to my style. Besides, Crystal knew she would likely walk away with a few pieces. So what I thought would take an hour, took 2.5 hours, with no interruption! Apparently, I am crazy about fun jewelry. What you see pictured is only about a third of what I possessed. I had jewelry boxes, shoe boxes, and my vanity with jewelry. The whole time I wondered why I tend to wear the same thing and not diversify it as much as I could. Nonetheless, at some point I was tossing jewelry in the air as Crystal and her friend, Glenda, politely shoved one another to grab the pieces. It was hilarious. Pieces that I put in the trash pile because I thought they were broken, were actually salvaged by the girls. Isabela also stayed up really late and completed organizing her hair accessory kit and jewelry box. At least it was a nice lesson on sorting and proper care.
Tonight was good for my heart. I was visited by many fond memories with family and friends. I am a huge sentimental one. If you give me something, I am treasuring it, for life. Found several of those. I particularly loved telling Crystal and Isabela all about the history behind the "good" jewelry, some of it 60 years old.
Today, that one drawer turned into three. I don't think I will be shopping much this spring.
