Crystal's friend was here tonight. She came over to get pointers from me as she is interviewing for a position at a local bank, under my recommendation. At some point in the conversation, Crystal and I got into a heated discussion (probably the 3rd argument of our life!). There were loud voices, tears, pacing and what seemed to be a far-sighted resolution. Isabela and Glenda sat quietly, motionless and Isabela's spoon hardly left her menudo sitting in the bowl. The argument lasted about 7 minutes, and on the 8th, we decided to keep our movie plans, not waste another single minute of what is left before she goes off to college.
Thirty minutes later, we were cuddled arm in arm, smiling, laughing and craving more of the movie "Mama Mia!". I only sort of wanted to see it, and I know that even though Crystal will not admit it, she had no desire to see it. She did it for me. I only gave it a chance because my most favorite actress, Meryl Streep stars in it. My review: INCREDIBLE! The music, the story, the setting..well done! I think I especailly connected with the storyline related to the mother having to let go of her daughter, not wanting to, but having to. Someone please buy me the DVD!
I thought a lot about my musically talented friend Jennifer Hill as I was watching it. I know she really enjoys musicals and that is NOT something we have in common. I always tell her that I can not sing, can not carry a tune, but she always tells me to stop and that it's not true. I guess musicians believe anyone can with proper training?? I don't know, but Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan were fantastic. I may be an ignorant novice here on musicals, but I think this movie evoked a small passion for musicals now...so long as it's on a romantic, adult level. So, how about it Jennifer...musical sometime?!?!?
