First Day of Summer Camp

Crystal and I dropped off Isabela at summer day camp today. When signing her up , the goal of enrolling her in this program was to help her acclimate to a school setting so that when she begins PreK in August, the transition will be easier on her...on me! I did NOT sleep well last night. I kept questioning how long she should be there every week and if my medical info. sheet had enough information on it or way too much to scare off the teacher.

After a really long conversation with her teacher, to my surprise, Isabela gave me a quick wave and we walked out, with no whimpers. I came home, did some things around the house, tried to refrain from going too early to pick her up, but as usual, I found a really good reason to pick her up two hours earlier. I caved. Just for today, though. I promise.

Her teacher told me that she was polite, asked to be taken to the restroom when needed, was respectful toward her classmates, followed the rules, ate all of her vegetables, fruit and rice while barely touching her taco meat. However, she said Isabela had a lot of trouble staying seated (surprise, surprise!). She was only there 3 hours, but as we were walking out of the main foyer of the preschool building, you wouldn't know it. Isabela had a crowd of people watching her come down the hallway in anticipation of waving good-bye to her. Everyone knew her name! I heard a teacher say "I wish she was in my class", another called on another to tell him Isabela was leaving. She had about 8 people just watching us walk out with smiles. When I told them she wouldn't be back until Thursday, I heard and felt disappointment.
We always get from strangers wherever we go how beautiful she is...so cute and adorable..her hair, her eyes. A lot of times it bothers me. Yes, we know it and appreciate her gifts from God, but, at home, we try not to make a big deal about her external features. So, today, I am glad to see that other strangers, just after three hours, got to see her other beauty, the beauty in her heart, because that's where it really counts.

(thank you, God, for leading me to a school that makes me feel like my child is so well taken care of...that I am too.)
